Trimble 4000 Milwaukee M18 Power Adapter
This is my primary power mobile source for my 4000 series receivers. A 5A fuse is soldered into the adapter as protection from a disaster should a short occur. I built mine out of one of the battery-cables-in-a-bag setups that Trimble used to sell, mainly because those can be had for half the cost of a single new FGG.1B.305 connector.
Things You Will Need
- Trimble 14555-00 (Battery Clips to LEMO FGG.1B.305 connector)
- Milwaukee battery socket (search Amazon or eBay for "N18V", similar adapters can be found for other brands of battery)
- Bel Fuse MRT 5 (Digi-Key)
- Altec 5306130 Cable Gland/Strain Relief (Digi-Key)
- M12x1.5 Tap
- Oring - 7/16" x 1/16" or 11mm x 1.5mm
Assembly
Assembly is fairly straightforward. Open up the N18V, and de-solder the red and black wires from the terminals. Drill a 10.5mm (27/64") hole in the lower case then thread the hole with a M12x1.5 tap. Run the wire through the gland, and tighten the clamp. Install the O-ring on the thread of the gland, and then screw the gland into the battery adapter. The O-ring helps to prevent the gland from unscrewing. Solder the wires to the circuit board as shown in the photos below. Solder the 5A fuse in the circuit board, reassemble.
